Lived experience is the beating heart of mental health and suicide prevention

Mental ill health and suicidal distress are deeply human experiences – which is why keeping people safe during these challenging times requires a human touch.

People with lived experience of suicide are those who have personally experienced, or who have cared for someone with, suicidal distress. Until recently, lived experience expertise was seen as a second-tier source of information to support the development and rollout of suicide prevention interventions, overshadowed by more traditional forms of data that could paint a more quantitative picture of suicide risks and outcomes.
