A lifestyle intervention for people living with psychosis
Keeping the Body in Mind (KBIM) is a world-leading integrated program to promote the physical health of people experiencing severe mental illness, including psychosis. Delivered through Mindgardens Member the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, its core elements are individualised nutrition education, led by specialist accredited dietitians, and exercise programs, led by exercise physiologists.
With additional investment by Mindgardens, KBIM is now able to evaluate the effectiveness of its work and expand into new domains, centred on the issues people find most challenging when they are managing their mental health. These include smoking cessation and access to vaccinations.
Mindgardens is committed to co-designing evidence-based, practical solutions that address issues identified by mental health consumers, with the potential to be scaled up and implemented in services across NSW and Australia. Keeping the Body in Mind(gardens) demonstrates the impact of the consumer-focused research agenda at the heart of the Mindgardens philosophy.
